So there I was……
So the wife and I had a great opportunity to meet some friends off the Emerald Coast I the great town of Ft. Walton for a quick weekend getaway. As you can imagine after a day on the beat in the clear water and day drinking we end up going to nice little restaurant at a nearby Marriott Courtyard.
First if you are ever on Okaloosa Island and want a great low-key restaurant I highly recommend Vincenzos Italian Bistro. A great little spot with the usual amount of hotel resident traffic. What was unique tonight was the entertainment. So there I was having dinner with Adam (yep that other guy that does stuff on this website) and our perspective wives and what do I see out of the corner of my eye, an Elvis impersonator. Now like many of you I’ve been to Vegas and seen several lounge acts but I was pleasantly surprised and had to look up from my Pork Osso Buco and take a second look.
No my first thought is that well that was odd…. but then as I take a look around the restaurant at the clientele, it makes perfect sense. The opening act being a poor man’s Roy Orbison with a follow up of the main attraction, none other than a poor man’s reflection of the king.
While not a full band and with a lot of backing tracks looking over at the bar area was a significant amount of grandma’s and grandpa’s having the time of their life. I can only imagine the type of shenanigans entailed after our departure. If generation ahead of me is having a good time listening to a group of guys cover Roy Orbison and Elvis tunes. What is it going to be like in 20 years? An old dude with a pony tail doing a cover of “Everlong” by Foo Fighters?
